zero diagonal error in 2d model

Post by akad231 »

I modelled the 2D model with 1 wall , 2 column and one leaning column. I connected the original structure with leaning column using RIGID link. While running the EIGENVALUE analysis, there is a error like ' Zero diagonal error'. I checked the forum and other material but I can't figure out what is the mistake, I have done in that. Plz help me to solve this issue.

There are several posts that describe this warning message (it is not an error), e.g.

Hi
I am trying to model an experimental setup of a 2D frame where axial loads on both columns (through hydraulic jacks) and a cyclic load on 1st column are being applied. Material properties are okay and all the 3 members are connected. Still my model gets terminated and says "Unable to apply the entire permanent load. Analysis terminated". Sol_Prb is mentioned as convergence problem. I tried all the tips and steps mentioned in the manual to achieve convergence (like changing tolerance value and all) but still the model is being terminated. My understanding is the model is being terminated due to zero diagonal terms and maybe I need to provide constraints to solve the issue. But I can not figure out which constraints should be provided. I tried various constraint combinations like x+y+rz, z+rx+ry but in vain.

An eigenvalue analysis, if it converges, will give you a good insight of what is wrong with the model. If you check the modal shapes will be be able to see what is connected and what is not in your model.
