Range Check Error when editing the model

Post by Soydan »

Dear Seismosoft,
I have built a single bay and a single story rc frame model for a static analysis includes a lateral load of 10 kN. Before doing the analysis, while composing the "nodes" and "element connectivity" parts of the model, a error called "range check" has been given by SeismoStruct.
I'm using Windows 7 - 64 bit. I did the following which I've read from the forum but nothing has been changed.
- Right-click on SeismoStruct's executable file
- Select "Properties"
- Click on the "Compatibility" tab
- Check the box "Run this program in a compatibility mode"
- Select "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" from the drop-down menu.
Best Regards.

Dear Soydan,

We did test, on a Windows 7 – 64 bit system, the workaround that we suggested, and it all worked fine (we would not have suggested it otherwise). Hence, we are a bit lost for what concerns alternative solutions, but we will keep on looking.

One first alternative might be that of creating a new model by copying&pasting the data from the existing one (which we suspect had been created in a previous version, right?). In other words, open two instances of SeismoStruct, in one of these load the model that is giving you problems, and copy, module by module, the corresponding model data into the second running instance of SeismoStruct, thus duplicating the old model in a brand new file.

Hope the above helps,

Dear SSoft,

It seems that the "range check error" also occurs in the post-processing module. I ran a static time-history analysis on the "Ch4-blind-01" verification model. When analysis was finished and tried to plot the hysteresis behavior the "range check error" appeared.

Thus, saved the file, exit SStruct and re-opened the file. However, the "List index out of bounds (54)" came up and the Post-Processor was not active and needed to run the analysis again.

While model, loading and analysis all went fine till the end, the error seems irrelevant to me. Thanks.

Dear Mostafa,

What operating systems are you using? Can it be that you are using Windows XP without the Service Packs?

I am using the Windows 7 on a descent computer.

I need to correct myself, when I reopened the file, in addition to "List index out of bounds (54)" error, the graphical view is not working (no graphical model is displayed) and the inputs in the "Applied Loads" , "Performance Criteria" and "Analysis Output" are all cleared out (deleted) by itself.

I will email the spf file in a bit. Thanks.

The "List index out of bounds (54)" error implies that the program has crashed, hence the wrong graphical display (the code does not reach that point).
As we mentioned in our e-mail exchange, the spf file has been changed either intentionally or unintentionally from a program outside SeismoStruct. SeismoStruct does not and could not create a 'User-Ded' text string that is included in the file. Try to correct it and check if the file opens (we did not check if other changes have taken place further in the file).
