gravity loads

Post by danyisi »

Hi, I have a problem with "gravity loads". Since the solution does not converge if I assign "Automatically transform masses to gravity load" (I've assigned in the model all masses distributed along the length) I would like to know how I can calculate gravity loads in a dynamic non-linear analysis. If I do not assign this command, "Automatically transform masses to gravity load, " Does the software consider the self weight? Thank you for your attention. Sincerly

Dear Dany,

Do refer to the Help System (and previous posts in this Forum) for tips and comments on modelling of gravity loads.

In any case, if your model cannot converge gravity loads, it might mean that:
- the gravity loads are excessive; as usual in the cases, one should hand-calculate the beam's bending capacity, and compare with the demand imposed by the loads
- the beams are not properly defined
- the beams mesh is too coarse or too refined
- etc

"Play" with simpler models (e.g. one-bay singe-storey frame) to try to understand things better (and do search this Forum for past posts on the topic, checking also the many tips in the Help System)
