two columns in one restraint node

Post by zthaer »

dear all ;

I'm trying to model two (almost attached) columns with same base node, as photo attached : https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzZ5tJ ... sp=sharing ,

if i want to mode those two buildings as a one structure with two different adjacent nodes, does this account for the behavior expected with compound footing.On the other hand and sorry to be unrestricted to the subject of this forum, and because the superstructure elements are not connected to the adjacent plans, dose the bounding of both plane expected and need to be modeled through two separate structures?

best and many thanks

Yes, you should model the two buildings separately but you will also need to add a gap element to model the bounding between them

Seismosoft Support;

many thanks , and i'm thinking about make two different seismostruct file to model both structure, then check the bounding later, dose it make sense ?

zthaer,

Yes, you can start by modelling the two structures separately, but you will need to use a careful naming of materials/sections/elements/nodes, in order to then be able to readily copy one of the structures into the seismostruct project file where the other structure is modelled (e.g. if in both models you have an element connecting node 1 to node 2, then copying things over will not work (unless you carry out an intermediary numbering adjustment in a spreadsheet or similar)).
