Horizontal and vertical offsets

Post by zhwang »

To whom it may concern,

I have a steel frame made of I section beams and columns. From the manual, I understand the horizontal and vertical offsets are introduced as percentage of the horizontal and vertical dimensions of the panel. Could anyone please suggest me how to calculate the horizontal and vertical offsets for the I section? For example, for the horizontal offset, should I use web thickness/panel width or (0.5 flange width+web thickness)/panel width?

Thank you very much.

Dear Zhwang,

In the user Manual is mentioned that the horizontal and vertical infill panel offsets represent the reduction of the panel due to the depth of the frame members. Hence, if the infill panel reaches the steel section's web, the panel's dimension should be reduced by (web thickness)/2. If it reaches the steel section's flange, the panel's dimension should be reduced by (flange width)/2.
