Static pushover analysis

Post by nikhilnbr »

I am doing the pushover analysis for a 4 story RC frame. But I am getting a linear response.Could you help me in sorting out this?
Its showing "unable to apply the entire phase load.Phase terminated".
Also how to a do a 2d analysis in seismostruct. When i did the eigenvalue analysis i got first mode as out of plane mode shape. I want only the mode shapes in the plane of the structure.

For the first issue, I recommend a forum search on 'unable to apply' to get started in the debug process. While unique problems do arise, there may already be some guidance on the forum for your particular situation. It would be worth a try anyway.

For the second issue, a 2D analysis may be accomplished by adjusting the Project Settings:

Project Settings --> Gravity and Mass --> Select only the DOF's you want to retain.

And for a 2D analysis you would also want to restrain the DOF's you are not interested in. For example, if you have a 2D frame in the XZ plane, then you would set X, Z, and RY as the global mass directions in project settings and add restraints in the Y, RX, and RZ degrees-of-freedom (DOF).

Best of luck, nikhilnbr.

Also how to change the reinforcement pattern for a beam at different locations

See the excellent SeismoStruct User's Manual beginning on Page 288. You define each section (in the Sections tab) and assign multiple sections to the individual element. Dimensions and materials must be consistent for the various sections. Only reinforcement patterns may differ.

is there any possibility of finding the performance point for a particular demand like capacity spectrum method

Dear nikhilnbr,

You should calculate the target displacement that corresponds to the particular demand and check the performance criteria at the corresponding step.

How to calculate the target displacement corresponding to that particular demand? We have to incorporate hysteretic damping, rite?
