dynamic time history analysis (error message)

Post by meser »

Hi,

As I am running dynamic time history analysis, the analysis often stops and reports that "Unable to apply next load step. Analysis terminated".

what does that mean? Does it mean that there is a stability problem such as my system is not stable anymore.

Best regards.

Yes, it means that your structure cannot withstand any further loading, either because it became structurally unstable or because there is an error in the model.

Have a look at response parameters such as strains, storey drifts, etc, in order to understand better what is happening. (using the 'Performance Criteria' function may be useful for this)
