INF (onfinite number) error!

Post by fakharifar.mostafa »

When working with large bridge models, I received the below error couple of times and analysis just stopped. Thanks.

INF(infinite number) encountered in the formulation of GlobalDisp vector.

Dear fakharifar.mostafa,

Would you like to send me the *.spf file with the described error?

We have been able to run the model until the end of the analysis. The fact that you are getting an INF message and we are not, probably means that the model might be rather unstable.
One possible reason for that is the fact that the convergence criteria (0,1m and 0,1rad) that you are using are very loose. Try decreasing their values to more appropariate levels, e.g. 1e-4.
Further, applying incremental displacements with force-based scaling is not recommended (an informative message shows at the beginning of the analysis).
Finally, you wil probably get a better response prediction if you apply incremental loads at all the locations with concentrations of masses, i.e. at the masses of the deck too.
