I want to model a frame constructed out of timber. what is the best way to achieve this?

You may simply select one of the constitutive models available in SeismoStruct (e.g. 'el_mat', 'stl_bl', etc) that is able to reproduce the response of your particular timber material.
If you then need also to model the (nonlinear) behaviour of the connections typically found in such type of construction, you may make use of link elements (coupled with an appropriate response curve).
