Unit of specific weight for steel models

Post by Pez »

In material properties part, unit of specific weight is stated as kN/m3 for stl_bl and stl_mp. However that unit is N/mm3 for stl_mn. I am not sure but I think the algorithm is organised for N/mm3 and the N/mm3 should be used for stl_bl and stl_mp as well. Any idea?

Dear Pez,

The units of the assigned values in the material properties module are the ones selected in the "Units Selector" window. From your description, I understand that you have selected SI units, m for length and kN for force, hence the specific weight of the materials is in kN/m3. You are right about the specific weight of stl_mn, the value is in the correct units(kN/m3) but the label describes wrong units (N/mm3). Thank you for this comment, the label will be corrected in future release of SeismoStruct.
