Unable to apply the next load step

Post by bashar »

Hi , maybe it's a stupid question , but there's any problem if i define a "section , element classes ,... any definitions " from previous one , i mean by using copy past then modify the new one ... etc "
cause i tried to build my model , by using the wizard then modify and create new definition by copy the wizard definitions ... etc
like example i have 3 concrete material 2 steel material ,and 9 concrete sections so i just modify the fc and fy , the dimensions and the reinforcement , but when i run the model sometimes It suddenly stops even without any performance criteria reached .
I'm not sure should i define always new one ??

Hi bashar,

The model-building process that you describe (i.e. modifying a Wizard-created model) does seem reasonable to us, and, in general, it should work well.

The only caveat, of course, is that if you reduce the strength of the materials or the dimensions of the cross-sections, and keep the loads constant, you may then have a situation whereby the structure no longer has sufficient capacity to withstand the imposed loading.

Of course, you are right in saying that in such cases the performance criteria should give you an indication of the structure's lack of capacity, but we note that if this happens already at the Initial Loading analysis phase, then you will not get any Performance Criteria notification.
