Peak Strains and Stresses

Post by zhwang »

Hi seismosoft support,

Could you please suggest me what is the stress (min strain) and stress (max strain)? And what does the "+" and "-" mean for the stress? In my model, the mean compressive strength of concrete is 16Mpa, and the mean tensile strength of concrete is 1.9 Mpa. Now, I would like to check whether the crushing or cracking happened in the concrete, should I compare the compressive strength (16 Mpa) and tensile strength (1.9 Mpa) with the stress (min strain) or stress (max strain)?

Thank you very much for your help.

Best regards,
Summer

Dear zhwang,

According to SeismoStruct's Help System about the Peak Strains and Stresses "The maximum/minimum values of stresses and strains observed in a particular element, as well as the local sectional coordinates where these values occurred, can be obtained. The user has the possibility of selecting the Integration Section and the material type to which these results should refer to."
I think that the definition of performance criteria might be an efficient way to identify different performance limit states. You may find more about the performance criteria in the SeismoStruct's User manual and Help System, as well as in the video available in the following links:
