reduction of the flexural bending stiffness

Post by hani.akkari »

Dear Support team,

I'm modelling a concentrically braced steel frame , i'm using for braces the frame elements + adding constraints at both ends to free the rotation (i didnt use the inelastic truss element , because i want to monitor the brace level of performance), so how can i reduce the flexural bending stiffness inside the frame element in order to have the nearest behavior as the truss element?
Best Regards,

Hani

I think in "ELEMENT" module > Add > elfrm:Elastic frame element > "USER-DEFINed" , you can choose bending stiffness.
But as I mentioned it is Elastic frame element. for modeling braces I use the models which proposed by (URIZ and MAHIN 2008).
I am interested in your investigation, please if it is possible inform me about your achievements.

good luck

Dear Hani,

If you have already released the rotational degrees-of-freedom at the elements' ends, as you seem to say you have, then there should be no need to reduce the flexural stiffness of the braces, since no moments will be transmitted to them anyway.
