Interaction Effects in Links

Post by huffte »

Research has demonstrated that ignoring the bi-directional interaction in isolation systems (such as LRB and FPS bearings) results in over-estimation of forces transmitted to the structure and under-estimation of displacements. (See, for example, "Performance Estimates for Seismically Isolated Bridges", Wanr and Whittaker, December 2007, MCEER).

A valuable enhancement to SeismoStruct would be the consideration of bi-directional behavior in the non-linear link formulation.

I realize that some of my requests may be asking for a lot, but I will still make them without insisting that they are required to keep a valuable research tool.

Yes, such a development has been on our to-do list for quite some time (several years), but, as usual, resources constraints have not allowed the corresponding implementation, yet.
