New steel sections for nonlinear element
New steel sections for nonlinear element
Hi seismostruct
Seismostruct has just a few steel sections and it really recommended to add the new steel sections in next version 7.
The very common and useful sections in steel structures.
Please See the details.

Re: New steel sections for nonlinear element
Thanks for your input. Those cross sections are good to have in SeismoStruct, but please remember, this is a research based software package, thus not being so concerned about the commercial cross sections used outside (plated double I sections!).
That would be cool to have them, but I doubt developers will do it! Definitely agree!

Thank you both for your suggestions. We are constantly trying to make SeismoStruct as user friendly as possible. In v7 that will be published in 1-2 months, you will realise that many changes and new features have been implemented towards this end.

As stated above in 1 or 2 months, the most probable dates being in early May. When the publication date is fixed, we will announce.

Dear Seismostruct team,
I really appreciate for v.7, It gets much better for modeling concrete structures. But for steel frame structures, steel fiber sections are very low and it would be better if New steel sections which is recommend before are added in next version.
Thanks

Dear salar,
A number of 700 predefined most common steel sections was available in old versions of SeismoStruct. In the new version of SeismoStruct v7.0 this number has been overdoubled (almost 1500 predefined steel sections are now available) with the addition of W, HSS and double sections.
We would appreciate if you could suggest any other steel section that is in common use.

Re: New steel sections for nonlinear element
Structural Tees, which are typically cut from W-shapes or M-shapes, double angles, and round HSS are other options for inclusion in future versions.
Round HSS is easy enough to simply put in as a circular hollow section though, so it isn't necessary to include them.
If double angles are not connected to one another sufficiently, then multiple existing single angle members may be used. If the double angles are connected together to act as a unit, double angle properties would be needed.
More impressive improvements have been made to an already extraordinary piece of work. Congratulations, thanks, and keep up the fantastic work, SeismoSoft!

Dear z.gronti
I mean the steel sections which I introduced in first comment. Please see the image of first comment.

Re: New steel sections for nonlinear element
Thank you both for the kind words and your suggestions.
Tim note that the double angle sections have been already introduced in v7 with the dacss section.
Salar, since your post last year we have been troubling ourselves on how to combine different steel sections in one (the possibilities are endless, really). We will definitely do something on this front in the next major release.
