Energy dissipation

Post by shahmussadasq »

I have found energy dissipation for a damaged column wrap with single layer of CFRP using FRP jacket ratio. Results are good as i compared them with experimental. But when i double the FRP jacket ratio ( Two layer of CFRP ) . Energy dissipation decreases ..... any idea why their is the decrease of energy dissipation instead of increasing ??

I can only guess, shahmussadasq, but I assume the section with the higher jacket ratio experiences less inelastic behavior when subjected to the same loading. The confining effect of the jacket increases both the peak stress and the peak strain.

The ductility demand and the number of yield cycles is lower for the higher jacket ratio.

Now, certainly the ductility capacity is increased with increasing jacket ratio up to some point, but when using the same load input, the ductility demand could easily be less.

Admin , i had read a comment in which it was mentioned that for a damaged column we can decrease the modulus of elasticity to consider failure. and i used that point and it gives me good result. Kindly if is hidden or deleted post it again so that i can take it as a reference in my thesis.

Shahmussadasq,

As far as I know, no posts are deleted from this Forum (though Seismosoft Support can obviously tell me wrong here), hence if you have read something here in the past, you should still be able to find it.

Just carry out a search using keywords such as "damage" or "modulus" or "cracking", and I am sure you will find the past post you are looking for.

shahmussadasq, I guess you are referring to the below thread.

In the forum, use of reduced modulus for bond-slip had been recommended, however, such that technique didn't work out for me accurately and can't get the post peak degrading response due to lap splice failure.
