capacity curve from static pushover

Post by amy »

Hello everyone,
I am a new user of seismostruc. I am performing 2D static push over analysis of a three storey steel moment resisting frame. I modelled the beam/column with infrmFB element with bilinear steel material model.
I compared the capacity curve with the capacity curve obtained from SAP 2000.I am wondering these two results are not matching. The maximum base shear corresponding to elastic deformation is almost half compared to SAP results.

If anyone can give me any suggestions regarding this, I will be really grateful.

Thanks
Amy

Amy,

As discussed in other posts in this Forum (e.g. http://www.seismosoft.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=500), there can be many reasons that explain the differences that you are observing.

I can thus only advise you to use the 'Search' facility of this Forum to find further hints&tips on the subject, and also to consult the Verification report of SeismoStruct, which will give you a good insight on how one may gain confidence on the nonlinear modelling capabilities of the structural analysis software being used.

I also emphasise that hand-calculations should always be used to check the results of a numerical model. For instance, did you estimate the flexural capacity (and corresponding shear force) of your ground-floor columns, and compare this with the base shear capacity coming out of your pushover analysis?..
