Center of Strength

Post by bshad »

Hello
I want to calculate the center of Strength in 3D-RC Structures,How can I do it?
can I PushOver each frame of structure in each direction & after obtain Vy (i.e. yield force of frame) then the geometry resultant of Vy in each direction is coordinate of Strength center.
another question is: if I want to have specific eccentricity(e.g. 20% length of structure) between center of stiffness & Center of Strength in RC structures How can I do it?

Hi,

1) "Centre of Strength" is typically computed in the same manner as 'Centre of Mass' or 'Centre of Stiffness', but considering the elements' strength (flexural or shear / yield or ultimate / etc), rather than their stiffness or assigned mass.

2) We might not have understood your question fully, but we imagine that, if you are assuming rigid diaphragm behaviour for the building slab, then you could probably vary the stiffness or strength of your elements in the manner necessary to create the eccentricity you are mentioning.
