Can coupling beam be simulated in Seismostruct?
Can coupling beam be simulated in Seismostruct?
The seismic performances of a frame-core tube structure will be evaluated by me. But there are many holes on the shear walls of RC core tube leading to how simulate the coupling beam well. Is it possible to simulate coupling beam in seismostruct? I'm hope that the supporrter would give me some methods to simulate coupling beam. Thank you very much!

Re: Can coupling beam be simulated in Seismostruct?
To model coupling beams, you will probably need to make use of a frame element with hinges at the ends, featuring appropriately calibrated response curves.
Check the literature (e.g. google "coupling beam modelling") for further indications/suggestions.
Some possible starting points are:
- a presentation by Naish et al. (see http://goo.gl/dFszW)
- the textbook by Priestley et al, which includes also SeismoStruct example models (see http://goo.gl/1TGGl)
- and many more..

Thank you for providing so many references. I will study these references well! Thank you very much.
