real-time deformed shape

Post by Newmark »

I did IDA analysis for two models, the ground motion was applied on the base. The deformed shape of one model is normal, as the base don't move and the above is moving, but another model has the different shape,as the base is moving and the top point doesn't move. What's wrong with this? I have never encountered this problem before. Thanks very much.

Are you referring to the 'Real time plotting of the deformed shape" in the Processor module (i.e. when the analysis is running)?

If so, then in your second model you probably have selected as first node of the model a top node, and hence, when you ask SeismoStruct to 'Fix position of first node' (in the visualisation of the real-time deformed shape), the result is the one you observed.

I refer to the Deformed Shape Viewer in the Post-Processor module as the analysis has done. Where is the selecting of the first node? I don't set this in the two models. Thanks very much.

Dear Newmark,

As indicated in the Help System, you can right-click on the deformed shape rendering window, select 'Deformed Shape Settings' in the pop-up menu that then appears, and activate/deactivate the option to "Fix the position of the first node".

And, of course, you can also check the results of your nodes ('Global Response Parameters' -> 'Structural Displacements'), and readily clarify if the results (rather than their visualisation) are as expected or not.

Thanks for your reply. I find this menu, but it has no change if I activate this option or not, and the results have the same appear, as the base is moving and the top point is not. Does it have any other problem? How can I avoid this? Thanks very much.

Newmark,

Have you checked the results, to make sure that these are correct and that you are simply experiencing visualisation difficulties?

Anyway, if you wish to, send us the model and we will have a look at it.

I checked the results, it's correct and the same as the normal situation, but I don't know why this visualisation appears?
