Separate material model for cover concrete and core concrete

Post by sarif »

Dear Support Team,
I would like to know about the following:
1) Is there any possibility to model cover concrete and core concrete using separate material models?
2) I am dealing with corrosion degradation; therefore, I need to update the model with degraded cover properties while retaining the core concrete strength. With the current automatic core concrete strength calculation, when I update the cover concrete with degraded properties, the core concrete is updated as well. Is there any way to work around this? One solution I considered is to manually input a confinement factor to ensure the core strength remains consistent with the initial cover strength.

Hello Sarif,

Unfortunately, it is not possible to employ different models for the concrete cover and core. The only thing that differentiates the behavior of the two is the confinement factors, defined in the Sections module. Therefore, the approach that you have proposed (manual definition of the confinement factors using appropriate values) is the best option that you can have.
