Gap element

Post by Norfil »

Hi,
thank you for fixing the Richard Abbott Behavior. It seems i ran into another problem when trying to use gap type behavior for link element.Aparently the gap opens in one direction only the positive one.For example using the parameters
0.01 133000 -0.01 133000
the gap opens at +0.01 in the positive direction but in the negative direction it opens at 0.I tried to change the value for the negative part but it does not affect the behavior .

Hello,

Yes, you are right, there does seem to be a problem with the gap element. We will now look carefully into this matter, and then report possible solutions here.

Thanks for the report,

Apologies, but we have not yet had the chance to work on this matter. We will do so as soon as we find some spare time. Thank you for your patience.

Dear Norfil,

In the most recent release of SeismoStruct, available from our website, we believe to have addressed the problem you had kindly indicated to us.

We are, however, not yet fully convinced that all is working well with the gap_hook element and are thus still carrying out additional checks.

Apologies for the significant delay in dealing with this matter.

Dear Norfil,

We can now confirm that all is working well with the gap_hook element, since the problem that we were still observing was in fact related instead to the excessively large time-step that had been defined in the model you kindly sent us.
