IDA with link elements

Post by vati »

Hi again. I have a model with link elements and I perform an IDA. When the analysis is done I try to take the response maxima of the force and deformation of the link elements and the results are huge numbers like 7.8E305. The other results I obtain, displacements and base shears for example, make sense. Any idea why is this happening?

Thanks in advance.

Hi.
Do these numbers appear in the 'Element Action Effects' post-processor module alone, or also in the 'Step Output' one? Either way, the behaviour does seem to be indicative of a bug, hence if you send us the input file, we will get things corrected in the next release.
Thanks.

Hallo and thanks for the answer. One thing that might be of some help is that my model consists only of link elements and mass, since I am trying to model concentrated masses and stiffnesses, in an effort to reproduce an analysis with zero length elements in opensees. In the step output the results seem to be ok.
Anyway, is there a way to attach the project file in this forum?

Thanks again.

Hi,

Thanks for emailing the input file to 'support@seismosoft.com'.
We can confirm that the problem you have observed is simply a case of a bug in the IDA Envelope output of links response parameters, which we will correct in the next release of the program.
Hence, the analysis/results are correct and you can obtain them, in alternative to the 'IDA Envelope' module, from the 'Elements Output' module, calculating then manually the maxima/minima.
