confinement zone length for column

Post by newman »

How I can define confinement zone length for RC column? I want to have two types of shear reinforcement in my columns.
Also, how I can adjust the start length and the end length for RC beams in building modeller? I can define different types of reinforcement in my beams by building modeller, but, I can find the option to change or see the start length and the end length.

In the element classes module, you can select different section types (with different transverse reinforcement) at the different integration section
Further in the Building Modeller you can select the reinforcement at the start, middle and end of a beam.

How I can determine the start length and the end length of the RC beams in building modeller? I think, I can not do this and the seismostruct do this automatically... I want to change these length which have different reinforcement.

After inputting the structural data in the Building Modeller, you may change the plastic hinge lengths from the element classes module.
In the Building Modeller the plastic hinge lengths get default values

In element class properties, there is no option to change the plastic hinge lengths. I want to change these lengths. Infact, I want to have assessment to change that length (start and end) which are used for different reinforcement in building modeler. Thank you for the last answer.

The plastic hinge length adjustment is available in the Element Class module if you have employed infrmFBPH (as opposed to infrmFB or infrmDBPH) elements for those members you wish to modify.

Thank you. Please help me about the second question. I don't know how many percent of the span (for beam) was used for start and end reinforcemdnt by building modeller? How can change it?

Dear newman,

If you have selected to model the Columns & Beams with inelastic force-based frame elements, then the integration sections will be 2 and will have the reinforcement of the start and end beam's sections. If you have selected to model the Columns & Beams with inelastic force-based plastic hinge frame elements, then the integration sections will be 4 and will have the reinforcement of the start beam's section at the first integration section, the reinforcement of the middle beam's section at the next 2 integration sections and the reinforcement of the end beam's section at the fourth integration section.

The above may be modified through the Element Classes module within SeismoStruct.

Please refer to SeismoStruct User Manual for more information regarding the integration sections and their approximate coordinates along the element's length.
