Selection of IPs and number of fibers in section

Post by Rana »

In FB model, generally one element per member is OK. But I have some confusion on the following aspects. Please explain:

1. What may be the basis of selection of appropriate number of IPs over the members?

2. How many fibers one should consider for a section. Do you believe that a stable moment-curvature response is expected by gradually increasing the number of fibers. Or, increasing number of fiber beyond a limit may lead to non-convergence. Do we relate this number of fiber with the peak stress-strain values of the section (say for concrete 25 MPa and 0.26% around)? This is just because the fiber area reduces with increasing number of fibers.

Thanks and regards

Dear Rana,

You may find relative information in the Element Classes section of SeismoStruct's User Manual and Help System.
