SMA wires in LRB

Post by ali_hssn »

I want to model SMA wires in base isolators of a bridge. For modeling base isolators, I've used link element. But there is no facilities to employ SMA as link element beside of base isolator. accordingly, I want to model SMA in "Beam-column element type" parallel with base isolator. Is it correct? How can I model it to works well?

ali_hssn,

In a past Forum discussion (I searched the word "alloy") there seems to be a suggestion for using a Takeda model, but I guess that trying different options (considering also proposals in the literature) is the best option.

Rui,
My question is how to use SMA in link element? Because there is no option for using SMA in link element.

Yes, correct, and that is exactly the reason why others have used phenomenological models (i.e. hysteretic response curves being) to try to model such situations.

Best,
