Verification of software

Post by seyedarsalan »

hi
I have a question about your varification report file
Ch4-steel-01.spf computer file is about Three storey, three dimensional steel moment frame under cyclic loading
in report's PDF file when you compare analitycal result with experimental result, both of them have maximum total shear by 1500 KN
but, when i run computer file with out any changes, the maximum total shear is 650 KN (maximum drift about 0.4 meter As loading define)
can you answer me , what can i do to get the correct result?

seyedarsalan,

As you may read in the Verification Report (page 98), only half of the symmetric building tested in the lab was actually modelled in SeismoStruct; if you then double the base shear results obtained in the analysis, you will obtain values that are very close to the ones measured during the experimental test.

Hi,
I ran into difficulty running the "Ch4-#8208;steel-#8208;02.spf" model in the verification manual. I just tried running this model and study the results with the experimental results, but the analysis stops at the very start of the test, prompting "
Unable to apply the next load step. Analysis terminated
Total Analysis Time: 0h:11min:29sec".

I should mention I didn't do any modification on the model yet, and it is as installed by the software. Analysis is reaching up to Time= 4.822 and still don't expect reaching significant non-linearity. Appreciate any help on this matter?

Hi Mostafa,
Go to the Elements page of the Project Settings (Tools>Project Settings from the menu). Uncheck the 'Do not allow element unbalanced forces in case of fbd_ite', both of them. This will probalby fix the problem.

Thank you really so much and it did fix the problem. Could you please refer additional material for this issue in addition to the software manual? Much thanks.

Hi Mostafa,

What do you mean with 'this issue'?. If you mean the option that we advised you to uncheck, refer to the publications on the force-based elements.
