frame forces

Post by zthaer »

dear all ;

i apply a 100 KN horizontal force at a top of 3D frame , when i check the total shear force in the frame force module for all the lateral resisting elements ( columns and walls ) i found it 110 KN.
then i tried to disable the option of " geometric non-linearity " i got 109 KN
what is the reason of this gap in all three values ?

best,

Is your force applied at the center of stiffness in plan? If not, you may be getting torsional effects in walls and columns perpendicular to the direction of loading. Does you summation include perpendicular elements? Also note that the self-weight of the structure will impose shears on columns which will sum to zero when direction is considered. So make sure that you are not computing absolute values of total shear forces.
