Rigid Link, Tension only, Truss in series

Post by smhzs »

Hi,

I am trying to perform N.time history analyses on a simple 2D One-story one-bay steel frame. But surprisingly, I cannot run the analysis. The error message says "Unable to apply the entire permanent load. Analysis terminated". Even though, I tried different modeling possibilities, the analysis fails. Can you please help me?
I am not sure whether the order in which I connect the brace elements makes difference and how I can get the results. Because the bracing element consists of a rigid element, tension only and truss element in series.
Also, Please note that performing an EigenValue analysis, reports "Imaginary or null eigen-solution"

Thank you.

Smhzs, hi.

As usual, and as we have repeatedly stated in this Forum, users should never start by trying to run analysis on a complex model featuring nonlinear link elements, rigid links, constraints, etc. Otherwise, the fact that the analyses fail to run is, at least to us, not surprisingly at all.

Users should instead start with a simple model (in your case, start with the truss elements only), and then, if such simple analysis runs, users may begin to gradually add the more complex features to the model (in your case, rigid links, and then tension-only link), and in this way clearly identify what is it that makes the analyses fail.
