Modelling a rigid arm at the bridge column base
Modelling a rigid arm at the bridge column base
Hello, I have to model a single circular RC bridge column (diam-320 mm and height - 1300 mm) retrofitted with UHPC jacket that has a 1400x800x600 mm reinforced concrete block attached to the base of the column. The column is subjected to an axial load on the top and a quasi-static cyclic load in the x direction. In order to validate the experimental results, I have to compare the experimental hysteretic curve. The majority of the research papers I have studied similar to this case, have modelled the RC column base through a rigid arm. So I modelled an elastic element using elfrm with a height of 600 mm (since the height of the concrete block is 600mm) with the original column properties. But the strength of the hysteretic curve I get is higher than experimental curve. Since I am a beginer to this software, I'm not sure the approach I used is correct. Can someone please tell me the approach I used is correct or if not, please help me to model this?

Re: Modelling a rigid arm at the bridge column base
Since the effect (or not) of the elastic element depends on the stiffness that you have assigned to it, I suggest that you use a rigid link (see Constraints module) instead.
