Complex Model Convergance

Post by Ralazem »

Hello,

I have a very complex model, with links/joints modelled at every connection in the building, and I am having issues getting it to converge. I have read most of the forms on convergence issues, as well as the seismosoft guide on convergence and tried applying these concepts, but it did not work.

I am sure that adding in those links elements are causing instability, but it is not the structure that is failing (at least not initially). Any tips on how I can get this to converge without reducing the complexing as I need to keep the joints/links in the model?

Any tips that have not been covered by the guide? Otherwise, is there a less complex way of modelling joints than that mentioned in the example files?

Edit: I am running non linear time history analysis.

Dear Ralazem,

There are numerous posts in this forum regarding convergence difficulties. As a start you might want to run an eigenvalue analysis to see if the structural members are well connected with each other.
