Pinned pinned connection for elastic element

Post by morello »

Hi,
I have 2D model that I need to connect two frames(external and internal frame from 3D) at each floor level with pinned pinned connection using elastic element. I created elfrm with high axial and flexural stiffness and when I tried to put moment release(M2a and M2b) for ends it didn't work(for dynamic time-history analysis). I checked from frame forces viewer and there was a moment(M2) along element. I get confused because thought that there wouldn't be any moment?
Also do you think is it proper solution to put truss elements with elastic material instead of doing above?
Thanks.

morello, hi.

Yes, from your description it does seem that a truss element should allow you to acomplish the modelling you require (though there may be other things causing your analyses to fail).

Best,
