Re: beam gravity loads

zthaer, When using lumped masses distributed/spread throughout the plan or floors of a given building, it tends indeed to be appropriate to define such concentrated masses only in the translational degrees-of-freedom (typically only the horizontal ones, since seismic vertical vibration can be ignore...

Re: Analysis in 2D

khan0099, Yes, a 2D analysis will indeed be faster than a 3D one. However, naturally, if your structure is not regular in plan and/or your seismic input is bidirectional, then your 2D simplification will inevitably introduce errors. I suggest that you run some experiments with small sub-sets of your...

Re: selecting group of nodes

Hi zthaer, I normally use the following features of the program to ease node/element selection: - Cut X-Y Planes, in order to visualise only nodes/elements e.g. between z =2 and z=4 - in the 'Nodes' module, click on the Z-column, so as to group together all nodes with e.g. z=3 - use 'Add to Group' f...

Re: beam gravity loads

zthaer, A textbook on basics of structural mechanics or of structural analysis should include the type of background info you are looking for. There are a few of these included in the Bibliography page of the Help/Manual of SeismoStruct, but I have actually never checked if they include the descript...

Re: period elongation

bakhtiyar, Is your query related to SeismoSignal or to SeismoStruct? As huffte tried to explain, obtaining in SeismoSignal the period elongation of a SDOF system is a somewhat peculiar concept, given that in SeismoSignal the period of vibration of the SDOF systems (that are subjected to dynamic anal...

Re: Analysis in 2D

khan0099,

Is there a particular reason why you wish to force a 2D analysis in SeismoStruct? Why do you not simply build a 3D model of your structure in SeismoStruct?

Best,

Rui

Re: error 1316

Dear Hossein Golkarfard, With regards to the academic license, I believe that all you need to do is to wait for the email with the license key to arrive, noting that this will not necessarily arrive in intantaneous fashion, given that Seismosoft receives tens of similar requests every day, and that,...

Re: time history analysis using accelerograms from any durat

Hi hendrasusilo17, The different duration parameters that you mention were not necessarily developed for the purpose of truncating accelerograms to use in nonlinear dynamic analysis. Indeed, as you will readily gather from a quick read of some of the papers in which such duration parameters are prop...

Re: viscous damping

Hi Milena, In order to achieve your goal (i.e. to model a diagonal brace with a viscous damper), I would most likely introduce, at one of the ends of your brace, a link element featuring a response curve whose hysteretic behaviour reproduces that of the damper in question (in SeismoStruct Manual/Hel...

Re: out of memory

samsami,

As a complement to Zoi Gronti's response, I suggest you to click on 'Board index', then type "out of memory" in the 'Search..' box, and read the many past discussions on this specific topic.

Best,

Rui
