Re: link damping

i want to represent the gap element by viscoelastic model which consist of spring and dumper, i use the gap-hk link do the function of spring and i want to take the effect of damping by define the stiffness proportional damping for the link instead of using dumper, also the stiffness of this link ...

link damping

i want to calculate the stiffness parameter for gap-hk link to get stiffness proportional damping for gap element between two adjacent buildings and according to seismostruct manual, the stiffness parameter is function with T.

the question is which T should be used in this case?? average T for the ...

target displacement

Hi

In the new version of SeismoStruct, why the target displacement calculate using the elastic response spectrum not inelastic response spectrum?? although the pushover analysis is inelastic analysis!

Re: gravity and mass

so if i have an element has own weight equal 1 ton force (10 KN) and i want to replace it by lumped mass, this mass will be

1 ton force / 9.81 = 0.1 ton mass
or
10 KN / 9.81 = 1 ton ???
sorry but i have misunderstand with this point
thank you

gravity and mass

i created two models for the same frame where,

model one has an permanent element vertical loads equal -24.4 KN/m, and from gravity and mass settings the mass defined (from both frame/mass elements and loads) and the loads defined from (loads in gravity direction are derived from mass based on g ...

Re: first mode period

thank you but let me ask the question another way if i want to get the pounding force between two frames, should i represent the mass for frames as lumped mass to get true results or can i make the program calculate the mass from members specific weights and applied loads.
thank you again

Re: first mode period

thank you very much huffte i will send it to you, put i have last question if i want do model the pounding between two adjacent buildings, should i assign the mass as lumped mass at each frame joins?? or it is not important??

Re: first mode period

i want to note also that i need the first mode shape for the 2D frame to be in-plan (x-z) not out of plan
