introducing initial condition

Dears,

I want to model free vibration of 2 adjacent building with initial opposite displacement, it means we have 2 buildings which have equal displacement but in opposite direction of each other, then we will release them to start colliding till they stop. the question is how it is possible to ...

kelvin voigt

Dears,

I want to model a kelvin voigt to introduce pounding between adjacent buildings so I want to use a link parallel with a dashpot.
is it enough to introduce a dshpot node with the same node of the link element? or not do you know how I can do that?

Thanks

Re: Modeling the Gap element

Dears,
In order to define the damping for gap elements. As this element has not mass we have to use stiffness-proportional damping method.we used C/K as the stiffness parameter; C is damping constant for the dash-pot and k is a linear axial stiffness of the colliding slabs. I have a question ...

What was the bug exactly in the previous version? (7.0.5)

Dears,

As you mentioned in the version 7.0.6 an important bug in the stiffness proportional damping was fixed. I would like to know what was that bug exactly? as I had used previous version as well as the stiffness proportional damping (tangent stiffness) for damping, it is critical to me to know ...

Hysteretic Energy

I have a question that how can we obtain the Hysteretic Energy for each story ( a 5-story frame with 5 bays) after a non linear dynamic analysis? Is it possible to get it directly from the SeismoStruct?

Re: Frame Force ( Shear force of columns)

thanks for answer.....
could you please tell me what do you mean by permanent loads? it means it is normal?

Frame Force ( Shear force of columns)

<t>Hi Dears,<br/>
<br/>
In seismostruct while the the nonlinear dynamic history analysis were done, the shear forces of story will not be started from zero and I want to know why this happen? Normally in shear force- Time history diagram the diagram should start from zero for one ordinary column ...

Re: Modeling the Gap element

Thanks for your answers...they are so helpful. I have done it in that way, but I think there is a problem remain.....while I check the mode shapes ( to check the periods and run Eigenvalue analysis) it seems that the 2 structures are separated and not connected.
I do not know why?
