Product Updates

Below, please find an overview of the improvements and new features introduced in SeismoBuild; do familiarise yourself in particular with those introduced in this latest release.

New analysis/modelling capabilities

  1. Ability to run several analyses simultaneously and parallel processing of the results that make the program much faster (2-2.5 times for larger models, more than that for smaller ones)
  2. Seismic isolation with easy input of the isolators in the Building Modeller. The following isolator types are supported: Elastomeric, lead rubber, curved surface sliders
  3. In NDP display of the RotD100 spectrum
  4. FRP solutions from new manufacturers (HORSE, Viapol, Simpson Strong-Tie, TECHEL, FIDSTRONG)

Code-based checks for footings are now included. The Italian, Spanish, Greek and Turkish languages are available.

New analysis/modelling capabilities

  1. Individual footings, Strip footings and Connecting beams are available for the modelling of foundation
  2. User defined accelerograms may be imported in nonlinear dynamic analysis
  3. The “FRP Designer” program has been included in the installation

Capacity checks for Steel Braces and the new revision of KANEPE are now available. Minor bug fixes are also included.

The Italian, Spanish, Greek and Turkish languages are now available. Minor bug fixes are also included.

New Modelling capabilities added

  1. the option to add an infill wall with height different from the storey height, with automated subdivision of the neighbouring columns in shorter members
  2. the ability to add V-Braces and Inverted V-Braces (Chevron).

Solving some problems with the slab insertion in the Building Modeller.

A bug in the beam-column joints code-based checks is fixed and minor bug fixes.

New analysis/modelling capabilities

  1. Linear Static and Linear Dynamic Analysis available
  2. New 3-sided, 2-sided and 1-sided jackets
  3. More efficient way to introduce the jacketed sections
  4. Significantly faster analyses with the new parallel processing capabilities and a new sparse/profile solver
  5. Infills implemented in the Building Modeller
  6. Steel Braces implemented in the Building Modeller
  7. Joints ductility check is included

A significant bug that prevented the display of the plots for the member forces and deformations in the post-processor is fixed.

New analysis/modelling capabilities

  1. Nonlinear Dynamic Analysis available
  2. Different steel materials for the transverse and the longitudinal reinforcement
  3. New diamond stirrups in transverse reinforcement of rectangular column, jacketed rectangular column and walls’ confined edges

An important bug in the material strengths of the Building Modeller when using the Imperial Units is fixed.

New analysis/modelling capabilities

  1. Support for the majority of the EC8 National Annexes
  2. Ability to compute Target displacements on the basis of User Defined Spectra including available spectra from 29 National Codes, Spectra computed from acceleration time-series or spectra uploaded in the program by the user in form of text file
  3. New infrmDBPH element type with better stability and automatic calculation of the plastic rotation capacity values according to the ASCE 41-17

New features

  1. Ability to export a SeismoΒuild project into XML file and import a SeismoΒuild project from an XML file
  2. New visualization capabilities in the Code-Based Checks Module

New analysis/modelling capabilities

  1. Support for American Code for Seismic Evaluation and Retrofit of Existing Buildings (ASCE 41-13), Italian National Seismic Code (NTC-18) and Turkish Seismic Evaluation Building Code (TBDY)
  2. Three new material steel models; Ramberg-Osgood steel mode, Giuffre-Menegotto-Pinto steel model and bilinear steel model with isotropic strain hardening
  3. Several changes to enable easier convergence, including (i) a new convergence criterion with adaptable norm, and (ii) the display in the Post-Processor of the members or locations, where the convergence problems are caused, a feature that enables the easy identification of the members that lead to the convergence difficulties
  4. Ability to create and print tables with all the members and their properties in the Building Modeller; this is ideal for the final checks of the structural configuration
  5. Ability to change simultaneously particular parameters (e.g. reinforcement, materials, FRP wraps, advanced member properties etc.) of several members at once
  6. Copy Member Properties feature in the Building Modeller, which enables the copying and pasting of the properties of a member to another member with a single click; it is similar to MS Word’s Format Painter
  7. Ability to immediately send the model to Seismosoft, in the case of convergence or modelling difficulties, so that it is debugged by our team of specialists in nonlinear analysis (this feature is available for commercial users only)
  8. The list with FRP wraps suppliers has been enriched
  9. Ability to add a slab by identifying its perimeter with a series of mouse clicks
  10. Ability to rotate and move the model in plan view in the Building Modeller
  11. Ability to select the Control Node at different locations of the building, when creating the model from the Building Modeller
  12. In the Building Modeller the reinforcement ratio ρ is now shown on the member’s Properties Window; if ρ becomes smaller than the limits ρmin & ρmax, as proposed by the selected Standard, the reinforcement ratio is displayed with red, in order to warn the users
  13. Libraries with predefined material strengths are available, depending on the year of construction of the building, according to the tables provided by the ASCE 41-13 and KANEPE Standards

New post-processing features

  1. Ability to display of the plastic hinge locations and the locations of damage in the Deformed Shape Viewer of the Post-Processor
  2. New Seismic Risk Classification according to the Italian Standards (available only in NTC-18 & NTC-08)

SeismoBuild has been programmed from scratch, and in its entirety, at Seismosoft. The first stable version was released in July 2016, after a total period of approximately 4 years of development.
