Zero tension forces - steel braces with Ramberg-Osgood steel model for steel braces

Post by dfd »

Hello

I am a new user and trying to learn SeismoBuild through the sample models.

I would like to strengthen a r/c building (example: 3-STOREY BUILDING STRENGTHENED WITH FRP WRAPS) with steel braces based on the Ramberg-Osgood steel model, while the reinforcement steel is defined by the general settings based on the Menogotto-Pinto steel model.

I noticed that the steel braces do not actually receive tensile forces, while when I use for them the Menogotto-Pinto model or the bilinear stl_bl steel model they receive tensile forces.

Can anyone please tell me the reason for this?

Thank you very much in advance.

Why did you write that ''the steel braces do not actually receive tensile forces?
The braces can transfer tensile forces, up to the load for the start of the buckling.

Thank you for your reply.

The axial force of the steel braces according to the results for the same load factor (before the performance level DL) is different for the two models.

For the model with steel braces according to the "Ramberg-Osgood steel model" the axial force at this step is almost zero, while for the other one for the same step is 194 kN/m.

The only thing I changed is the hysteresis model of the steel braces.

I feel that i didn't do something right, that's why i wrote to you.

I would like to send you a link with the two models and some screen shots of the axial force for both alternatives of the same model.

We checked things and it seems that the Ramberg-Osgood steel model defined by SeismoBuild is not correct. We will fix the bug in the upcoming v2025 Release-2 that will be published at the end of January, but until then please do not use it. Apologies for the inconvenience.
