Dear all,

Can you help me how to deal with beams being supported by others beams?

a) on building modelling, the main beam that supports secondary one will always be automatically divided on intersection point? In that case how should we deal with reinforcement definition? Per instance, for the 1st part of the divided main beam the end reinforcement is the "real" mid span reinforcement (without division)?

b) as far i can understand, on shear and chord rotation verifications, seismobuild will assume that each segment of the main beam it's a beam, so the lenght will not be correct (if i have a main beam with L=3m that supports a secondary beam at x=1m, seimobuild will verify the first segment of main beam with L=1 and the second one with L=2...which lead to erroneous output, right?)

Please find my answer below:
a) When an assigned beam intersects an existing column, wall or beam, it is automatically subdivided and two members are thus created. Hence, when you have assigned a main beam and, after inserting the secondary beam, you have 2 main beams, you should modify the new subdivided beams so that you assign the proper reinforcement. For example, you will have the same (middle section's) reinforcement in middle and end section in the 1st part of the subdivided beam.

b) The code based checks are executed at the start and end section of each element. I am not sure that i understand why the subdivision of the beam will lead to erroneous output. Could you please explain at which part of the code based checks you refer?
