Convergence Issues

Post by nimish07 »

Dear Seismosoft,

I am having the oft encountered convergence problem in the following manner of detail -
I am modelling a 2 bay 2 storied structure and subjecting it to timehistory as well as pushover analysis. Say in pushover analysis, it always diverges at load step 76.XXX.
I tried the following measures "individually" without success -
1) decreasing the size of load step increment.
2) increasing integration sections to 10 from 5
3) relaxing convergence criteria to 1mm displacement and 1e-4 for rotation.
4) Setting maximum iterations to 200.
Can you suggest anything more than could be done to go further on the pushover curve. I never succeed ini getting a softening on the curve. I have already searched for the term convergence and found nothing more than what i already did.

Any help would be appreciated!!
Thanks and Regards

Dear Nimish,

Have you searched for 'convergence' in this Forum (and Help System), and followed the many suggestions found in such posts, including those related to checking that the ultimate flexural capacity of your structural elements has not been reached and/or that an unstable mechanism has not formed?

If your levels of axial load are relatively small and/or the collapse mechanism fragile, a softening branch might not necessarily occur.
