I have a question about the scale factor parameter for the algorithm proposed by Hancock et al. I read that this parameter can be modified to obtain a better coincidence with the target spectrum. However, I would like to know what criteria are used to modify this parameter. I hope you can help me. Thank you very much in advance, regards from Perú

You can apply any scale factor you desire. And you can be very simplistic or very rigorous in determining a scale factor. There are many options. Among them are:

1. Look at the target spectrum and the unscaled ground motion response spectrum and visually estimate a scale factor.
2. Scale the ground motion such that the response spectrum of the scaled record exactly matches the target response spectrum at a particular, single period.
3. Compute a scale factor which minimizes mean-square-error (MSE) over a desired period range. Scale factor calculation can be accomplished using SeismoSelect, also available from SeismoSoft.

I would say that 3 is the preferred method.
