nonlinear structural dynamics

All,
I'm looking into numerical methods for differential-algebraic equations (DAE) typically found in structural dynamics of structures with singular mass matrix (since moments of inertia are typically ignored at rotational DOFs).
These equations are also called stiff second-order differential equations. I understand that most explicit methods (Central Diff., explicit Newmark, etc) cannot be used in systems like this, however, some implicit methods can be applied to solve DAEs with the aid of techniques such as pseudo-force of unbalanced-force technique.
Could anyone tell me how SeismoStruct tackles the numerical solution of systems with singular mass matrices?
Thanks,
Maikol
