Permanent load

Post by zhwang »

Dear Seismosoft support,

I would like to run pushover analysis and dynamic time-history analysis on Ch4-steel-01 in verification report for version v7. In the verification report, the static time-history analysis for Ch4-steel-01 includes some permanent loads. If I run the pushover analysis on Ch4-steel-01, should I keep the permanent loads and add incremental load? Or delete these permanent loads and add incremental load?

Similarly, if I would like to run dynamic time-history analysis on Ch4-steel-01, should I keep the permanent loads or delete the permanent loads?

The spf is attached: https://www.dropbox.com/s/h866pk5t3dos2 ... 1.spf?dl=0

Thank you very much.

Dear zhwang,

As it is written in the Verification Report document "The vertical loads assigned for the frame are applied to each beam-column joint as permanent loads in terms of forces in the Z direction (for details refer to the computer file of the model)." Also, in the Ch4-steel-01.spf you may see that there is no material specific weight assigned nor sectional additional mass nor mass element. Hence, if you delete the permanent loads in the Z direction, your model will have zero vertical loads and mass. To sum up, if you want to run different analysis types from the default, you should keep the permanent loads in the Z direction and delete only the "Static Time-history Load", applied in the X direction.
