need help in dynamic time history analysis

Post by sadraddin »

Hey all
Does dynamic time history analysis need to enter live load? If yes how I can do that?
How I can enter self weight of the structure? Does software calculate slab weight? However, I have done with my modelling, I have not entered slab thickness.
Thanks for helping me

Hi sadraddin.

You may (a) generate masses from the applied lumped and distributed mass elements ('Element Classes' tab) and the material densities of the various sections, (b) generate masses from applied permanent loads (c) generate masses form both (a) and (b).

So to include some portion of the live load as active mass during ground shaking you could apply the load as distributed or lumped mass elements, as permanent nodal or element distributed loads, or as uniformly distributed added section mass in the element section properties.

As for the slab, once you get it's mass included by one of these methods, you could use a diaphragm constraint to include the effect of the slab on stiffness. There are other ways, so I think it best to leave that up to you for your particular cases.

You control which method is used to generate the masses through the 'Tools' --> 'Project Settings --> 'Gravity and Mass' tab in SeismoStruct.

I hope this clears it up sadraddin. Best of luck with your work.
