hai all,
i obtained weird result when applying the time history data to SeismoStruct (el_centro earthquake data). Supposely, i will obtain the sinusoidal graph for displacement versus time graph. however, the displacement keep increasing up to the end of the time recorded. what is wrong with my analysis? Tq.
Dynamic Time History on 3d frame
Re: Dynamic Time History on 3d frame
There are several things which could be happening, not knowing any details about your model.
Is the model nonlinear or linear? If it is linear, then the problem is likely an applied accelerogram which needs baseline adjustment. In this case, a forum search on "baseline" should help with your problem.
Is the model nonlinear? If so, then depending on many parameters, the displacement could increase as you say and have a residual displacement at the end of the loading.

Re: Dynamic Time History on 3d frame
thanks hufte for the respond. my model is RC concrete frame so it is nonlinear model. what sort of parameters do u refer to?
i have done the pushover analysis and the results are interesting and can be said matching well with the experiment pattern. however, when i incorporated with time history data, (changing the analysis becoming dynamic time history), the data is unreliable. the displacement keep increasing.

hamzahfarha,
As huffe mentioned already, there could be a myriad of things wrong in your model (e.g. inadequate mass values, inappropriate accelerogram units, etc) - indeed, if you search this Forum for the word "wrong", you will find several tens of posts where such term is used, the majority of which referring to different problems or errors.
In any case, one thing that does come to our mind is the fact that you might be looking into 'absolute' displacement values (which may indeed accumulate, as noted by huffe - search this Forum for "absolute"), rather than their 'relative' counterparts.
