box-girder section

Post by bassking »

Hi, i have a question. In the window section, when i choose section type i design a box-girder section. why the 2 and 3 axis are not barycentric?
The inertia of the section is calculted by its bottom, there's a command to make axis barycentric?

The inertia is calculated by its centre of gravity, as expected. The reason why the axes are not displayed barycentric is to facilitate the input of the reinforcement.

Are you sure? The inertia of the same section calculated with autocad, with baricentrical axis give me another value

Maybe i'm wrong, or i can't use seismostruct probably well... :) but the value that seismostruct returns to me is the inertia calculated by the bottom of the box-girder section

Bassking, indeed you are right; after too much effort, we managed to spot a bug in the calculation of EI2. The inertia value was not calculated by the bottom of the section, however there was a type mismatch in the formulae that was giving wrong values (by a factor or 10-20%).The bug will be corrected in the upcoming version of the program.
Many thanks for helping us in improving the software.
