RC Section - Steel Jacket

Post by KingGiorgione »

Hello friends.

Is it possible to create a RC section with steel profiles jacketed?

I tried using the section: "Reinforced Concrete Jacketed rectangular section - rcjrs", but I can not do what I want.

In the "Help" section it is written that "steel-or FRP-wrapping can be modelled using the existing RC sections."
But what section?

Thanks

Hi Matteo,

I'm sure that SeismoStruct offers several composite sections...
But, if you need to define something different, search for "FRP" in the Forum.

Hi Federica

Thanks for the answer! :)

Unfortunately, I can not find a section in seismostruct suits my needs.
I have to use a RC rectangular section, with steel L-shaped symetric that make up the jacket.

What I need is the rectangular version of the section: "Composite circular section".

Thanks

Hi Matteo,

have you tried to use a rectangular hollow section (with a retrofitting material) with (i) the internal width and height (= section width/height - section thickness) that equal those of the original element's section (e.g. reinforced concrete rectangular section), (ii) the section thickness dimensions corresponding to the thickness of the retrofitting layer?
Such new retrofitting element should be connected to the same nodes to which the existing element is connected to.

Hi Federica!

Thanks a lot! You have solved my problem! :)

I had not thought to do that.

Just a simple question, the program considers the two profiles attached?
obviously, I have already considered an increase of confinement in the RC section.

Thanks again Federica!
