Smooth rebars

Post by Andre »

Hi,
In the help system it is referred that "as discussed by Prota et al. [2009], with the correct calibration" the Monti-Nuti model can be employed for smooth rebars, which is my case.
The authors concluded that the model yields good results for L/D<8. This is a quite recent article. Can you confirm that there really isn't a known model suitable for smooth rebars with L/D>8 yet?

André,

We cannot provide you with such a confirmation, though perhaps there are users in this Forum who might have carried out an extensive exhaustive literature review on the topic and thus provide you with an answer (we would not hold our breath on it though).

Hi,

You may also want to take a look at the following paper:

EDOARDO COSENZA and ANDREA PROTA, EXPERIMENTAL BEHAVIOUR AND NUMERICAL MODELLING OF SMOOTH STEEL BARS UNDER COMPRESSION, Journal of Earthquake Engineering, Vol. 10, No. 3 (2006) 313–329

André,

The paper cited by Joao Pacheco, relates to monotonic response only and is the predecessor of the paper cited in SeismoStruct's Help System, which relates to cyclic behaviour and is authored by the same researchers.

The fact thus remains that there is no guarantee that there aren't other models out there for modelling of cyclic response of smooth bars, and that you should carry out a thorough literature survey if you wish to be sure.
