Dear SeismoStruct Team,
I am encountering an issue while attempting to perform a nonlinear time history analysis on my model. The details of my model are as follows:
- A 50-story structure consisting of shear walls, cores, and beams.
- All elements are modeled as force-based elements.
- Eigenvalue analysis and pushover analysis run successfully without issues.
However, when I try to run a nonlinear time history analysis, the program frequently stops responding without displaying any error messages. I can only close it using the Windows Task Manager.
Additional Observations:
The model successfully completes the analysis only under these conditions:
Number of steps: 1000
Time step: 0.05
and changing some factors in (Convergence criteria factors & Global iterative strategy & Element iterative strategy).
However, this configuration is not suitable for my analysis needs.
My original earthquake excitation has 10,000 steps with a time step of 0.005, but this causes the program to stop.
When I reduce the number of steps to 2500 with a time step of 0.02 (which is the configuration I wish to use), the same problem occurs.
and I tried another EQ excitations but I faced the same problem.
Despite multiple trials and adjustments, the issue persists.
Could you please suggest any solutions or adjustments that may help resolve this issue? Your guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your support and time.

Re: Issue with Nonlinear Time History Analysis in a High-Rise Model
It seems that you are running out of space on your hard drive. Such a large building (50-storeys high) with 10,000 steps means that the output should be tens of Gbs.

I am confident the issue is not related to the size. Could you kindly share any other ideas about what might be causing the run to stop at a certain time step without providing any warning or explanation?

Re: Issue with Nonlinear Time History Analysis in a High-Rise Model
The other thing that I can think of is that you might be using very loose convergence criteria. Can you please load the default program settings and see if the analysis runs? Alternatively, you could send your model to support@seismosoft.com
