Regarding Seismic weight of whole structure

Post by mangesh30 »

Dear all,
I have doubt regarding the seismic weight of the structure, including slab, beam, column, and infill. I am looking seismic weight in post-processor option, in that global response parameter- hysteretic curve- Refresh button. Actually I have modeled my building through the building modeler option so the software is showing total seismic wt. considering all members ??? Is it considered whole slab wt. in that?? Please explain.

Dear mangesh30,

The total loads that you get when modelling a structure in the Building Modeller is Cg*G+Cq*Q (+Cs*S if applied). The loading combination coefficients are defined in the SeismoStruct's Building Modeller Settings.

You should also check the Gravity and Mass settings in SeismoStruct's Project Settings, i.e. how you have selected to define mass.

Dear Zoi,
I am asking whether is it considered the slab weight or not?? post-processor option, in that global response parameter- hysteretic curve- Refresh button gives some weight value. I need to know about it?? Please explain detail.

Dear mangesh30,

If you use the Building Modeller facility to create your model, then the slabs' loads are applied to the supporting beams. You may see that these loads are applied as additional mass in the corresponding beams’ element classes in SeismoStruct. If you do not use the Building Modeller facility, then you have to manually assign the slabs' loads.

Dear Zoi,
This is ok, I agree, but I want to know post-processor-global response parameter- hysteretic curve- Refresh button gives some weight value. This is self weight of structure right?? I am asking in that slab is considered or not??

Dear Zoi,
I want to calculate total seismic weight of structure considering all structural members?? How can I get in seismostruct software?? or shall I need to calculate manually??
Please explain...

One way would be to perform an eigenvalue analysis and examine the modal mass ("a") at any mode and the corresponding percentage of total mass ("b") at that mode. Dividing "a" by ("b"/100) should produce the total mass of the structure included in the analysis. The value should be the same for any selected mode with non-zero participation.

Ok. But please help with my problem. but I want to know that, the post-processor result shows -global response parameter- hysteretic curve- Refresh button gives some weight value. what is this value?? please explain. please see the left bottom corner.

Indeed, in the hysteretic curve page the total weight is given. Also you can get it from the Forces and Moments at Supports tab.
