Modeling Damaged RC Frame and Retrofitting
Dear Sir/Mad
Hello
I want to:
First: apply strong earthquake records to a RC frame; therefore, plasticity and damage extends in the elements.
then Second: use FRP on the damaged elements and again apply strong earthquake records.
Can I use Seismostruct to do this process?

In SeismoStruct's Post-Processor, the elements that have exceeded their capacity at a particular code-based check (or the elements that reach a particular performance criterion) may be visualised by choosing the Code-based Checks option (or Performance Criteria option) and selecting if the plastic hinges/ damage locations will be shown, and whether these elements will be distinguished through colours and/or damaged textures.
Further, FRP wraps may be assigned to columns through the FRP Wrapping module. Users may select the FRP sheet from a list of the most commonly used products found in the market, or alternatively introduce user-defined values.
Finally, there is a one month trial version available in https://seismosoft.com/products/seismostruct/ so that you could check if the program covers your modelling requirements.

BY WHICH WAY I CAN USE (OR MAYBE I CAN MODEL) THE DAMAGED MEMBERS (IN ORDER TO RETROFIT BY FRP...)?

You may use time-dependent members to simulate the strengthening interventions AFTER the sustained damage by the seismic event, however this cannot be applied for FRP wraps. All the same, note that FRP wraps should NOT be applied directly to damaged members and the repair of the sections should be done prior to their application.

In SeismoStruct strengthening on the member level can be modelled through FRP wrapping and RC jackets. On the global level new shear walls, steel braces or base isolation can be employed.

Would you please explain the steps for modeling an RC Shear wall that experiences cracks and damage under seismic loads? What kind of Element Class should be used? and what specific analysis settings should be defined?

Dear shamidpour,
You may use the infrmFB element class since it allows for the accurate estimation of damage accumulation, provided that it is also numerical stable. If you face convergence difficulties, you may also use the infrmFBPH element class that provides higher numerical stability. I am not sure about your other questions. You may, however, find plenty of models with wall sections in SeismoBuild & SeismoStruct Sample Models available from https://seismosoft.com/seismobuild-seis ... le-models/

I have tried all the element types including infrmDB, infrmFB, and the hinged types. The main problem is that my simulated model is much stiffer than the experimental case that I need to validate. It's weird that even when defining cracking in code or performance criteria although some cracks happen but the stiffness of the member does not decrease. In the experimental model, the cracks are severe but I'm afraid in my numerical model there are just a few cracks, how can I help to increase the cracks in the members? What kind of criteria definition or analysis setting can help that? (except changing inputs like the dimension, material properties and seismic excitation because they are obtained from experiments and are fixed)
